Walk, Don't Run!
Fri, October 14, 2005 at 05:17PM Good news for those exercisers who aren’t fanatics. You don’t have to perform an intense exercise program to reap the benefits of improving cardiovascular fitness. Brisk walking 12 miles a week (about half-an-hour a day, 7 days a week) is just as effective as jogging the same distance when it comes to cardiovascular fitness, according to Duke University scientists.
One important point, however. Jogging will help you lose weight, while walking may not. For weight loss it’s all a matter of “calories out minus calories in”. So don’t give up jogging entirely, if you’re overweight. Of course, if you’re an HAES advocate (Health At Every Size) walking will probably be your choice.
