Dinner Plate Size
Fri, February 10, 2006 at 05:58AM The average dinner plate today is 11 to 12 inches across – small wonder that we’re all eating too much. A few decades ago they measured a mere 7 to 9 inches. With this in mind, try using a salad plate when you dine at home. You’ll find your meal still looks adequate, even though it’s much smaller than before.
If you want to go a step further, and aim for an approach to ‘five-a-day’, mentally divide your plate into quarters. Use one quarter for protein, one for carbs, and two for veggies or fruit. And your dessert should fit on a saucer.
When dining out, if asking for a child’s portion is embarrassing, just push half (?) of what’s on your plate to one side, and eat the rest. And then take home what’s left in a doggie-bag. The pounds will drop off.
