Beer or Wine, It's How You Dine
Wed, February 8, 2006 at 06:19AM It’s reported that there’s a lower death rate among wine drinkers than beer drinkers, other things being equal. But, unfortunately, they aren’t equal. A new study from Denmark has shown that their diets vary according to their taste in alcoholic drinks.
Wine drinkers tend to buy fruit, vegetables, and low-fat meats and cheeses. Beer drinkers, on the other hand, like prepared dishes, sugars, cold cuts, chips, pork, sausages, and sodas. The investigators claim the validity of their findings, as they were based on actual food purchases rather than food preference questionnaires, which are not always considered reliable.
Though this study was done in Europe , similar results have been reported in California . Wine drinkers are, in general, wealthier, better educated, and in better shape physically than beer drinkers, in both Denmark and the USA . Once again, healthy lifestyles triumph.
