What to Drink?

Just in case you’re not sure what sort of beverages you should be drinking (adult and otherwise), the US Beverage Guidance Panel has published its report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The idea is to give advice to those trying to fight the obesity epidemic – choosing the best beverage can be a relatively painless aid in calorie and fat reduction.

The Panel points out that the average daily calorie intake in the USA has increased by 150-300 calories a day, with half of this coming from sweetened beverages (i.e. colas). Quite rightly, they give such drinks the lowest spot on the totem pole of acceptable drinks. Water is still the preferred beverage, and although they include bottled water here, I have my personal doubts about these costlier-than-gasoline fads.

In between water at the top and sodas at the bottom come tea, coffee, various milks, and so on. No mention of a good glass (or two) of wine, I’m afraid.
