How to Walk to Good Health
Fri, May 5, 2006 at 05:11AM It’s hardly likely that you need tips on how to walk, but there are some aspects of walking for health where an idea or two could help. Here are some put out by the University of Michigan Health System.
1. Find a buddy – a friend can encourage you to walk on days when you’re not motivated, and can help you keep up the pace.
2. Use a pedometer. It will help you keep track of how much and how fast you are walking, and act as great motivators.
3. Schedule your regular walks in your calendar or PDA, to prevent other activities intruding.
4. Check with your doctor if you have any chronic medical problem, to make sure there won’t be any additional health difficulties.
5. Start slowly – maybe just around the block on the first day – at 3 to 4 miles an hour, or even slower to start with.
Start today – or this week, anyway – it’s too easy to put off walking for good health, and it will help you lose weight.
