Saturday Quack – Christian Yoga

This isn’t really a quack – it’s more of a rail against a fad – so-called Christian yoga. The physical and psychological benefits of yoga are legion. We’ve recently reported here on how it helps people with low back pain. But some people want the benefits without the underlying Hindu flavor. They object to the chanting as being something they don’t want to participate in; it seems they’re squeamish.

So what do they do? They repeat the names of biblical phrases or Christian themes. This falls, to my mind, within the realm of “Chinese-menu” therapy. Yoga is, according to an expert, is a combination of mind, body, and spirit. Swapping out the original ancient Hindu spirit for a more recent Christian spirit is like going to a gourmet restaurant and drinking Saki.
