Take Fruit and Veggie Juice to Stave Off Alzheimer’s

Oxidative damage is the regarded today as the key to the development of Alzheimer’s. That’s why people are taking antioxidants in the hopes of delaying its onset. One of the targets of oxidative damage is an amyloid peptide, and hydrogen peroxide has been suggested as a possible mediator. This has led to the use of polyphenols, which are described as the most abundant dietary antioxidants. And fruit and veggies juices contain lots of polyphenols.

A study done in Japanese Americans, reported in the American Journal of Medicine, shows that those who drank juices at least 3 times a week had a 76% reduction in their risk of getting Alzheimer’s. On the other hand, there as no protective effect of vitamins E, C, beta-carotene, or tea, in these subjects.

It looks as if these juices may play a big role in slowing the onset of Alzheimer’s. They taste good, and carry other health benefits. And they’re cheaper than pills. So you should include them in your diet.
