Saturday Quack – Vitamins in Sodas

March is National Nutrition month, so it’s appropriate that we arm ourselves against a new series of products that are about to be foisted on the American public – vitamin-loaded soft drinks.  Professor DerMarderosian of the University of Pennsylvania has spoken out against these sodas.  It’s not likely that water-soluble vitamins will remain intact very long in mildly-acidic sodas.  The shelf-life and stability of vitamin-sodas is, therefore, suspect, especially if the drink isn’t refrigerated.  By the time it’s actually drunk, there are probably no vitamins left to consume.  And they aren’t likely to be cheap.  Far better to drink fruit juice or green tea, and eat fruits and veggies with most meals.
