Summer and Psoriasis – the Good and the Bad

People with psoriasis know the misery of having unsightly patches on their skin at a time when showing some skin is often expected as part of the summer fun. For sufferers, it may be almost impossible to wear shorts or T-shirts because of embarrassment and the perceived stigma attached to a scaly skin disease.

On the other hand, sunshine – or at least UV rays - can help the actual lesions in many patients; the red scaly patches can disappear in the summer months.

What’s the best approach for the individual patient? The UK organization Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Alliance (PAPAA) has published a booklet that will help patients handle the problems posed by the summer months. It’s called Psoriasis and the Sun, and you can download it here. I hope it helps.
