Ten Symptoms of Kidney Disease

There are 26 million sufferers of chronic kidney disease in the USA, and another 20 million are at increased risk of getting it. So Kidney Disease Awareness and Education Week, held on August 11 to 15, is a good opportunity to remind people of the symptoms that may be responsible. Here are the ‘top ten’ (there are more):

Changes in urination

Swelling of the face, hands, feet, or ankles.

Feeling of unusual tiredness

Nausea or vomiting

Headache, dizziness

Problems thinking clearly

Severe skin itching

Shortness of breath, or difficulty in catching breath.

Loss of appetite

High blood pressure

If you have one or more of these symptoms go to your family doctor, who can assess if kidney problems are responsible or if it’s something else. You may be one of the 20 million – don’t become one of the 26 million.
