Reliable Info on Complementary and Alternative Medicine
Sat, January 24, 2009 at 03:00AM Over 40% of US adults aged 60-69 use some form of complementary and alternative medicine, known as CAM. Apart from vitamin and herbal supplements, the term includes chiropractic manipulation, acupuncture, meditation, and massage. The National Center for CAM, which is part of the National Institutes of Health, is responsible for a new comprehensive online information center.
The main NCCAM website, which is aimed at the public and health professionals, has an interesting and extremely informative page titled “Are You Considering Using CAM?” This is, to my mind, essential reading for anyone with a serious disease who may be tempted to try non-traditional treatments as a first-line approach. It also has helpful advice on how you can use the Internet to learn more about health and disease from reliable sources.
