“30 Minutes a Day Is Not Enough to Lose Weight”
Tue, February 24, 2009 at 03:00AM We are gradually beginning to realize that perhaps 30 minutes a day of exercise, 5 days a week, is not likely to produce the best results for our health. More is probably better for losing weight or for saving your eyes. The American College of Sports Medicine has produced new guidelines that have been published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise.
The new recommendations for overweight people to lose weight and keep it off are 250 minutes or more of physical activity a week. This equates to 50 minutes a day, 5 days a week, or more than 35 minutes daily, 7 days a week. Strength training should be added, if possible. It can increase fat-free mass (i.e. muscle) and accelerate the loss of fat mass. And, of course, dieting helps!
Sorry for the bad news, but the recommendations are based on scientific evidence.
