Fitness – Are You a Square, Rectangle, Triangle, Circle, or Squiggie?
Mon, April 13, 2009 at 02:00AM How well you succeed in sticking with your exercise routine probably depends on your personality. But instead of saying you are a ‘type A’, or ‘obsessive’, or ‘a procrastinator’, consider whether you fit one of these 5 types identified by fitness guru Linda Shelton.
Squares are the most reliable and predictable, preferring a plan for all aspects of their life. Thriving on routine, there’s a risk they will do the same exercise program for years – not a good thing. Squares should try to add small variations or new activities to avoid plateau-ing.
Rectangles are a bit more flexible, but still like routine. They work best in groups. Rather than work alone, they should join a gym or a hiking club.
Triangles are the most competitive, driven type. Being task-orientated they maintain detailed lists of their workout. They should have clear goals, either set for them or by themselves.
Circles are social butterflies – they’ll socialize rather than exercise, and need a nurturing trainer or a group setting.
Squiggies have the most outgoing, least structured personality. They hate routine, and get bored easily. They need an extremely varied routine with different classes and new activities, to keep their interest.
If you can’t classify yourself, have your partner help. When you know what sort of exerciser you are, you can take the necessary steps to make sure you stick to your plan and meet your goal. Good luck!
